Urbanwise.London are looking for an enthusiastic Greener Canalside and Learning Officer to lead volunteers in practical greening projects along our local canal and to work with schools and community groups, delivering environmental education sessions.

Job Description

1. To organise and lead practical volunteering sessions including building and maintaining new garden areas, litter picking and greening up of the canal towpath.

2. To organise and carry out environmental training courses for volunteers, local residents and community groups.

3. To devise, prepare and carry out environmental education sessions and after school clubs for groups from schools and other educational establishments.

4. To keep records of volunteering and education sessions, monitor progress and write evaluations and reports as required.

5. To contribute to Urbanwise.London’s Annual Report, publicity material and other publications, displays and exhibitions.

6. To help provide a liaison function between community groups, schools, local agencies, the Council and local individuals to help the Greener Canalside project and Urbanwise.London’s wider work

 

Selection Criteria:

Essential

The Board of Trustees is seeking someone who demonstrates the following:

1. Experience of leading volunteer groups on practical environmental projects in an urban setting.

2. Experience in or understanding of running climate change education sessions with community groups.

3. Experience in delivering education sessions eg. teaching in school, community education, environmental centre or college.

4. Ability to communicate and liaise with a wide range of people including individuals and groups, the Council, other voluntary organisations, schools and colleges and local

business.

5. An understanding of the relevance of safeguarding, equality and diversity to the work of Urbanwise.London.

Desirable

1. Experience of health and safety related to water

2. Experience of developing after school activities for children and young people
