Salary: Pro rata £30,000 per annum (2 days / 14 hours per week)
Contract: Part-time, flexible, self-employed / freelance considered

Job Description

Tree Musketeers are an established volunteer-led organisation in Hackney, with over 25 years of experience growing and planting trees across parks and green spaces. With over 2,000 trees in our nursery at any time, we’re now expanding and looking for a Part-Time Engagement Arboriculturalist to help us manage tree stock, engage the community, and support our ambitious plans for climate-resilient planting.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about trees, enjoys working with volunteers and community groups, and has practical arboricultural experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage tree stock from seed collection to planting out or sale.
  • Support propagation, formative pruning, and irrigation management.
  • Order and maintain tools, soil mix, and other nursery stock.
  • Lead and assist with volunteer sessions at the nursery and planting sites.
  • Engage and inspire community groups, volunteers, and the wider public.
  • Work with council officers on planting proposals, aftercare, and management.
  • Take photos and create captions for social media updates.
  • Ensure risk management and health & safety standards are met.

Person Specification

  • Level 2 qualification (or above) in arboriculture, horticulture, or related field.
  • Practical experience working or volunteering with trees.
  • Strong communication skills and experience leading workshops or volunteers.
  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage workload independently.
  • Good IT and record-keeping skills (spreadsheets, tree management software).
  • Experience with GIS mapping (desirable).
  • Driving licence (desirable).

Additional Information

  • Flexible working encouraged – some work can be done remotely.
  • Some weekend and evening work required during planting season.
  • Role reports directly to the Chair of Trustees.
