Force of Nature Campaign

Be a Force of Nature

We’re excited to launch our third Force of Nature running through October 2024 up to Green Careers Week!

We are giving the green space sector a spotlight to those looking for a new job, work experience or a career pivot. Let’s make the green space sector as good as it can be and take advantage of all the benefits it has on offer.

During the campaign we invite jobseekers to;

Across our jobs board to see how the Green Space Sector is diversifying it’s workforce, attracting more of London’s talent pool to roles, training and opportunities

Discover and navigate through the variety of pathways to a purposeful career

Supported by leading employers and organisations in the sector, you can enter the green space sector at a great time, and become a #ForceOfNature when climate and nature emergencies need you most

Encouraging Change

We are asking employers and organisations across the green space sector to sign the pledge to support the campaign’s mission. Together, we’re pledging to work towards a more inclusive environmental sector by:

You can help us improve access to the green space sector to make it a sector of choice for all jobseekers.

Committing to an action plan designed to make our organisation more inclusive and diverse

Adopting recruitment practices that proactively seek to address a lack of diversity in the environmental sector

Opening up pathways for diverse talent by creating entry-level positions with prospects for career progression

Sign the pledge on behalf of your organisation.

Bridging the Gap: The Need for Change in the Green Space Sector

The green space industry faces significant challenges that hinder the sector from reaching its full potential. The Green Space Skills Hub conducted a research report; “Bridging the Gap: Exploring Perceptions and Challenges of the Green Space Sector.” We found that green space jobs are under-recognised for the required skills and lack public respect. We identified challenges and barriers facing employers and job seekers, including the lack of visibility of jobs within the industry and the career progression opportunities they provide. Furthermore, we identified potential activities that could help address these issues and outlined some recommendations that aim to raise the profile of the industry and attract more people into these jobs and career pathways.

Joining Forces

The Force of Nature campaign is being led by Groundwork. Until October 2024, this was part of their New to Nature programme which has now closed. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the campaign called upon employers and organisations in the green space sector to improve accessibility and appeal for jobs for young people who are connected to nature, green space and the environment.

For the Green Space Skills Hub, we hope that our jobs board showcases opportunities for Londoners of all ages and backgrounds, and those who are under-represented in the sector.

London is the city of diversity and community and needs its green spaces and nature to thrive. Creating a diverse and inclusive workforce in the green sector is essential for innovation and ensuring a sustainable future for all. The Green Space Skills Hub is proud to be the online destination to find green space and nature-based jobs across London supporting partners, candidates and employers.

If you’re an employer and would like to get involved and promote the campaign too, you can access the campaign toolkit below.
