About the Role

Hackney Council is seeking a Biodiversity Officer to join its Parks Development Team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role offers a unique opportunity to deliver real, on-the-ground biodiversity improvements across one of inner London’s richest and most diverse green space networks.
Hackney manages 58 parks, gardens and open spaces, including 33 Green Flag Award-winning sites. Working within the Climate, Homes and Economy directorate, you’ll play a key role in delivering the park-related elements of Hackney’s Local Nature Recovery Plan, supporting nature recovery in a dense urban environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
      •     Support delivery of biodiversity projects across Hackney’s parks and green spaces
      •     Assist the Parks Development Manager and Grounds Maintenance Team
      •     Help implement the Council’s Local Nature Recovery Plan
      •     Develop and deliver biodiversity-focused park improvement projects
      •     Work closely with residents, community groups, stakeholders and politicians
      •     Support and contribute to biodiversity-related volunteering initiatives
      •     Promote the importance of nature, habitats and wildlife in an inner-city context

About You

You’ll bring:

      •     Experience working in a biodiversity, ecology or green spaces role
      •     Understanding of biodiversity in urban environments
      •     Experience engaging with communities and park user groups
      •     Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills
      •     Ability to manage projects and contribute to budgets and funding bids (desirable)
      •     Confidence working independently and as part of a wider team
      •     Flexibility to work occasional evenings and across different sites in the borough
