Meet the Team...
Jenny Warne
Senior Employment Advisor
My role as Senior Employment Advisor is to be the person who those interested in participating on a horticulture course contact. We speak to ascertain whether this is the right course for them and to ensure they can travel to the venue and are free to see the course through to completion.
I support participants through the course and with updating CVs and preparing for interviews, and on the Level 2 course I run the Carbon Literacy sessions which are a deep dive into climate change.
Green Skills training is such a joy to work on as I get to see people with a passion for gardening developing their skills and deepening their knowledge, gaining in confidence and making great friendships, and then going on to work in horticulture and glowing with the wonder of working in nature.
My aim for everyone taking part in the Horticulture courses is that it’s a joyful experience, and that is my favourite part about it – seeing the joy and sharing in that.
Obi Onokwai
Employer Liaison
As Employer Liaison for the Green Space Skills Hub, I work with employers across London to create pathways into the green space sector for our learners. My role involves building relationships with employers, understanding their recruitment needs, promoting vacancies, arranging interviews, and helping connect trained, job ready candidates with meaningful employment opportunities. I also work closely with training providers and community organisations to ensure our programmes are aligned with the needs of the industry.
I’ve always been passionate about helping people reach their potential and find opportunities that can change their lives. Through my previous work in employment and skills, I saw how important it is to connect people with sectors that offer genuine career prospects. The green space sector is growing rapidly and provides a wide range of rewarding careers, yet many people aren’t aware of the opportunities available. Being part of the Green Space Skills Hub allows me to bridge that gap by helping individuals access training, develop confidence, and move into sustainable employment.
Seeing people progress from being unsure about their future to gaining qualifications, developing new skills, and securing employment is incredibly rewarding. I particularly enjoy working with employers to create opportunities for our learners and seeing those partnerships result in real jobs. It’s also inspiring to work with such a diverse range of people, including career changers and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, and help them discover a sector they may never have previously considered.
