Build Your Skills for a Green Career

Energy Garden is recruiting young people aged 18–24 for its next Youth Training Programme, starting in January 2027.

This paid 50-hour programme is designed to boost your employability while giving you practical experience across horticulture, the environment, sustainability and green enterprise.

Through a combination of hands-on training, workshops and site visits, you’ll have the opportunity to develop practical green skills while exploring the different career opportunities available within the growing green economy.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the programme, you’ll gain knowledge and practical experience across four key areas:

  • Environment & Horticulture – develop practical skills and learn more about plants, growing and the natural environment
  • Energy & Sustainability – explore sustainability, renewable energy and greener ways of working
  • Communication & Engagement – build confidence communicating and working with different people
  • Green Enterprise & Careers – develop your employability and explore career opportunities within the green sector

What the Programme Includes

You’ll take part in a mixture of:

  • Hands-on practical training
  • Green skills workshops
  • Site visits
  • Horticultural and environmental activities
  • Sustainability learning
  • Employability and career development

The programme consists of 50 hours of training, with participants completing approximately 2–6 hours per week.

What You’ll Gain

  • Learn about sustainability and green careers
  • Gain experience that can support future job and training applications
  • Work towards an AQA-certified achievement

And importantly, this is a paid training opportunity at £14.80 per hour.

Who Can Apply?

This programme is aimed at young people aged 18–24 who are interested in developing their skills and exploring opportunities within the green sector.

You don’t need to already be an expert in horticulture or sustainability. The programme is designed to help you learn, gain experience and build your confidence.

Energy Garden combines community gardening, sustainability and renewable energy to help create greener communities and provide opportunities for people to develop environmental skills.

The Youth Training Programme provides a practical introduction to the sector and can be a great first step towards further training or employment in areas such as:

  • Horticulture and gardening
  • Sustainability
  • Environmental projects
  • Community engagement
  • Urban greening
  • Green enterprise
