About the Programme
Kickstart your career in London’s green space sector with our 5-week practical Horticulture Training Programme – delivered in partnership with Groundwork London and Capel Manor College, with direct input from the employers who manage London’s parks and open spaces.
This programme is designed to give you the real-world skills, experience and qualifications needed to enter roles in grounds maintenance, landscaping, parks, gardens, and estates teams.
What You’ll Learn
You will gain hands-on experience across horticulture, sustainability, and outdoor work, including:
- Plant maintenance and species care, including safe pesticide use.
- Operating tools and machinery such as strimmers and powered equipment.
- On-site Health & Safety, including achieving your CSCS card.
- Practical skills in planting, pruning, bed preparation and tool use.
- 6 accredited qualifications recognised across the sector.
- Work towards a Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture (upon completion).
You’ll also experience professional workshops at Capel Manor’s Enfield Campus.

Eligibility
To join this programme, you must:
- Live in a London borough
- Be 18+
- Be currently unemployed, not in training or education
- Have the right to work in the UK
Practical Requirements
You will be taking part in active outdoor tasks including planting, pruning, soil management, machinery use, and working with organic materials. A good level of physical fitness is recommended.
It is advisable that your tetanus vaccinations are up-to-date.
